¡°Thence I passed eastward
to a certain city called Fuzhou¡The city is a
mighty fine one, and stands upon the sea¡(Friar Odoric¡ªFranciscan in China,
1323-1327)
Fuzhou has hundreds of quality hotels that you can easily book online,
so how do you narrow them down? Here are my favorites--based on
some unique attribute (price, view, food, location, etc.). Fuzhou,
by the way, is famous for hotsprings, so many hotels offer hotspring water
right out of the tap (which somehow seems like any other hot water to
me--but I'm usually in hot water as it is...)
Fujian Sunshine Holiday Hotel (Yangguang
Duri Dajiudian ¸£ÖÝÑô¹â¶ÈÈÕ´ó¾Æµê£©
I stay here a couple dozen nights each year. Clean, rooms, good
food, good service, very reasonable rates (if you bargain, as little as
260 Yuan a night). Great location: only ten minute walk to Wuyi
Square and downtown. And hot spring water on tap. Dining
Hint: walk outside the hotel, to the right, and at the main road,
on the left, is a tiny mom and pop N.E. China (Dongbei) fast food place
with excellent homemade Chinese dumplings (jiaozis) of many kinds, noodles,
etc. Simple wooden tables, the plainest decor--but a delightful family
making great home-cooked food. (They don't speak English; I'll translate
their menu for you).
Address: 26 Gaoqiao Rd. Fuzhou, China 350005

Fuzhou
Lakeside Hotel
(Fuzhou Xihu Dajiudian ¸£ÖÝÎ÷ºþ´ó¾Æµê) 5 Stars -- one of Fuzhou's
first international; still one of my favorites. Great rooms, service,
food (I enjoyed their Octoberfest, with German beer and Chinese barbequed
octopus!), reasonable prices. Right beside the lake (of course);
only ten minute walk to park and Panda reserve.
Address: 158 Hu Bin [Lakeside] Rd. Fuzhou, China

Fuzhou Shangri La Hotel
£¨Fuzhou Xianggelila Dajiudian ¸£ÖÝÏã¸ñÀïÀ´ó¾Æµê) 5 Stars
Elegance, comfort--and pricey. But very convenient location, right
downtown on Wuyi Square (which has the statue of the Great Traffic Cop;
well, that's what it looks like to me). From here it is but a short stroll
to Yishan Hill and the White Pagoda, the Muslim Mosque, great shopping,
etc.
Address: #9 Xinquan South Rd. Fuzhou, China 350005
Tel: 86-591-87988888
Golden Resources International Hotel
(Jinyuan Guoji Dajiudian½ðÔ´¹ú¼Ê´ó¾Æµê) 5 Stars A posh and sprawling
commmercial hotel near the Fuzhou International Exhibition Center; every
amenity you could expect. Great restaurants.
Address: #59 Hotsprings Park Rd.(Wenquan Gongyuan Lu) Fuzhou, China 350003
Tel: 86-591-87088888
Ramada Plaza Hotel (Fuzhou
Huameida Guangchang Dafandian ¸£ÖÝ»ªÃÀ´ï¹ã³¡´ó·¹µê£©4 Stars Some
claim this is Fuzhou's best; reasonably priced for what you get. It is
the first "international" hotel (though I thought the Lakeside
was of international quality). Unique "gothic" architecture.
Address: 108 Beihuan West Rd. Fuzhou, China 350003
Tel: 86-591-7883999
Other recommended Fuzhou Hotels (check
Hotel booking sites for descriptions and reviews):
Fuzhou Hotel (Fuzhou Dajiudian
¸£ÖÝ´ó¾Æµê) 3 Star; old standby near government offices; reasonable prices.
Address: #18 Dongda Rd. Fuzhou, China 350001
Tel: 86-591-83333333
Fujian Foreign Trade Center Hotel
(Fujian Waimao Zhongxin Jiudian ¸£½¨ÍâóÖÐÐľƵê) 5 Star, right downtown;
also reasonable prices.
Address: #17 Wusi Rd. Fuzhou, China 350001

Convenient; Long distance busses stop here.
